In Nursery and Reception classes children always have access to a range of quality stories. We love to sit on our reading sofas to share books and chats. We regularly listen to stories. We are always singing our favouritie songs and rhymes and talking about them. 

Children in Reception take part in a daily vote to ensure that they have an input in choosing stories that they hear before they go home. 

We use some of our favourite stories as a base for our other learning. We find that children love to find out about the world starting with a great story. This is also how we teach lots of our writing.

Children are encouraged to take favourite books home to share with their grown ups. 

Learning to read for ourselves is really exciting. We love to use books that match with what we learn in phonics so that we get to know ourselves as readers.
